In the wake of the death of George Floyd, the ensuing protests, and the racial inequities laid bare by the COVID-19 epidemic, the Board of Trustees of The Meeting Place Learning Center affirms its commitment to racial justice and to building a community founded on the unshakable truth that each one of us is a child of God. The mission of The Meeting Place Learning Center has always been to take concrete steps to build this community. We also recognize that until that community is fully realized, we are called upon to raise up those whose dignity has been trodden down, and to insist upon the acknowledgement that Black Lives Matter.
The Meeting Place Learning Center serves the predominately African American Buckeye neighborhood and our students reflect the make-up of our neighborhood. Our board, staff, volunteers, donors and supporters, meanwhile, come from diverse communities across Cleveland and the United States. Those of us who are white acknowledge that we must listen in humility to the grief and pain being expressed by those of us who are black and brown. All of us together reach out in love to those who are in pain right now and those who seek with a sincere heart a more just community. We remember that action is a form of prayer and dedicate ourselves to seek out actions we can take together to bring about a more just community.
We look forward to hearing from our students, their families, our neighborhood, friends and supporters how we can help.
